Riverside County is a bustling area with a lot of car, truck and motorcycle traffic. When a motorcycle accident occurs, there is a high risk of serious injury or death to the motorcyclist.

With the high prices of gasoline today, more and more motorists are turning to motorcycles as their means of transportation to and from work or school.  Accidents happen on a regular basis - serious bodily injuries can happen.  Injuries include head injuries, broken bones, fractures, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and internal injuries.

Many of these tragic accidents happen because a motorist did not see the motorcyclist.

Statistics show that most motorcycle accidents happen with another vehicle, many happening at an intersection.  Motorcycle accidents not only bring severe injuries, but they also bring medical expenses, possible lost wages and a lot of pain and suffering.

If you are injured as a result of another person’s actions, you should speak to an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney to determine if you are entitled to a financial settlement to enable you to move forward with your life.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a six-vehicle accident at an intersection in Riverside.

Apparently five vehicles were stopped at a red light signal at a major intersection when a pickup truck failed to stop and crashed into the last vehicle, setting off a chain-reaction collision.  The impact caused two of the vehicles to be pushed into the intersection – causing four individuals to be injured.  The injured people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

An investigation is underway and no arrests or citations have been issued.  It appears that the truck crashed at full speed into the vehicles that were stopped.  Investigators are trying to determine why the truck driver did not stop.  Many rear-end accidents are caused by drivers who follow another vehicle too closely.  California Vehicle Code Section 21740 states, “A driver shall keep the vehicle he is driving at a distance of not less than 300 feet to the fear of any other motor vehicle subject to such speed restriction which is preceding it.”

If the truck driver is found to be at fault because of his or her negligence, he or she can be held liable for compensation of the injuries and damages caused.  The victims would be wise to consult with an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney who will investigate the facts of their case.

A 37-year old big-rig driver drifted off the freeway when he lost control and crashed into one of two parked cars on the shoulder of Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore recently.  The big-rig overturned and caught fire, trapping the driver inside – leaving the driver dead.

The two cars were stopped because one of them had blown a tire and the other stopped to help his friend.  The 22-year old who stopped to help his friend sustained major injuries while the 22-year old with the blown tire was uninjured.

The accident is under investigation to determine if the driver suffered from fatigue or was intoxicated or just distracted.  They will also investigate to determine if a mechanical failure caused this fatal accident.  If the driver is found to be at fault, the trucking company may be held liable for the injured man’s medical and other expenses.

If you lost a family member in a trucking accident, contact a Riverside Personal Injury attorney who is familiar with trucking accidents to find out your rights.

Here is another reason for motorists not to drink and drive.  The Riverside County Sheriff’s department has decided to continue towing and impounding vehicles belonging to first-time unlicensed drivers that are stopped at DUI checkpoints.

For a time, there was a contract city policy authorizing Coachella police to allow first-time unlicensed drivers at DUI checkpoints to have someone pick up the vehicle before it was towed.  This policy has been reversed.

California law since 1995 has allowed police to tow and impound vehicles for 30 days when driven by unlicensed, revoked or suspended drivers.  For every day the vehicle is impounded, it accumulates fines and storage fees.

The policy change came after reports of law enforcement agencies all over the State of California implementing similar changes.

If you are stopped at a DUI checkpoint and your vehicle is impounded, contact an experienced Riverside County Criminal Law attorney who will investigate to see if the charges against you can be dropped – especially for a first time offense.  This is a serious crime; you need someone who will fight for your rights.

Friday night was a busy time for Riverside police at their DUI checkpoint on Van Buren Boulevard and Garfield Street.  Not only did they arrest two people for driving under the influence and possession of drugs, but they issued 49 unlicensed drivers and/or suspended drivers.  They also impounded 46 vehicles.

At the end of the evening, close to 1,400 vehicles had been stopped, checked for intoxication and unlicensed drivers.  This is not only for the safety of the drivers, but for the motorists and pedestrians around them.  The Riverside Police Department is hoping the people stopped and/or arrested will realize that driving and being under the influence is not safe for anyone involved.

Police at a sobriety checkpoint set up on Highway 111 the other night arrested 10 people.  Of the 900+, cars that passed through, 27 field sobriety tests were conducted.  A breakdown of the 10 arrests is as follows:  1 driver was driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, eight drivers drove without a license or on a suspended one, and one had an outstanding warrant.  In addition, nine vehicles were impounded.

It was a busy night for Rancho Mirage police but a safer night for Rancho Mirage residents.
