If you are stopped for speeding in California, be prepared to pay the highest fine in the country. The ticket could cost you well over $300 – not to mention higher car insurance premiums.
California Vehicle Code Section 22350 states, “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property”.
In addition to very high fines, a speeding ticket puts points on your license. The points you receive depend on how fast you were driving, if you were following another vehicle too close, if you were driving recklessly or if you were speeding through a construction zone. Depending on how many you receive, your license can be suspended. Most moving violations stay on your record for at least three years, some longer.
You can fight your speeding ticket. Take this ticket seriously; don’t just pay it.
