A 44-year old Riverside woman was killed after being hit by not one, but two vehicles while crossing a busy road the other evening. It is unclear if she was crossing in a marked crosswalk.
First, she was hit by a motorcycle. Minutes later a vehicle hit her. She sustained fatal injuries. The motorcyclist suffered scrapes, bruises and a few broken bones.
According to California Vehicle Code Section 21954, “Every pedestrian upon a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway so near as to constitute an immediate hazard.”
Officials are investigating what caused this fatal accident; however, no arrests have been made.
If a loved one in your family is killed because of another person’s negligence, contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney who can file a wrongful death lawsuit on your behalf – seeking compensation for medical expenses, funeral expenses and all other related damages.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a six-vehicle accident at an intersection in Riverside.
Apparently five vehicles were stopped at a red light signal at a major intersection when a pickup truck failed to stop and crashed into the last vehicle, setting off a chain-reaction collision. The impact caused two of the vehicles to be pushed into the intersection – causing four individuals to be injured. The injured people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
An investigation is underway and no arrests or citations have been issued. It appears that the truck crashed at full speed into the vehicles that were stopped. Investigators are trying to determine why the truck driver did not stop. Many rear-end accidents are caused by drivers who follow another vehicle too closely. California Vehicle Code Section 21740 states, “A driver shall keep the vehicle he is driving at a distance of not less than 300 feet to the fear of any other motor vehicle subject to such speed restriction which is preceding it.”
If the truck driver is found to be at fault because of his or her negligence, he or she can be held liable for compensation of the injuries and damages caused. The victims would be wise to consult with an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney who will investigate the facts of their case.

Rodney King is facing misdemeanor drunken driving charges in Riverside.
A few months ago King was pulled over by Moreno Valley Sheriff’s deputies for allegedly committing several traffic violations. After taking a field sobriety test, King was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He admitted to using marijuana under a doctor’s care.
King is not in jail and waits for his arraignment in November. This is not his first time with a DUI arrest; he has been arrested several times for illegal drug use. He also has a conviction for reckless and impaired driving on his record.
Criminal DUI charges are extremely serious and come with severe consequences. If you have been arrested for DUI, contact an experienced Riverside Criminal Law attorney who has been successful in alcohol-related cases and will fight for your rights.

Unsafe railroad crossings can present a serious danger to pedestrians. A 33-year old woman crossing the railroad tracks while pushing a baby carriage in Riverside over the weekend was killed when a train hit her.
It is not known why she was pushing a stroller across the railroad tracks. Reports indicate that the baby and the stroller were on the other side, but she remained on the tracks. The baby was not hurt. The railroad company, Metrolink officials and the Riverside police department are investigating the fatal accident.
There are instances when trains fail to blow their whistle when approaching a crossing – increasing the danger for pedestrians attempting to cross the tracks.
If you or a family member is struck by a train at a railroad crossing, you may be able to collect for injuries and medical expenses. Contact an aggressive Riverside Personal Injury attorney who can investigate your case to determine if unsafe conditions exist at the crossing.

A driver crossing the railroad tracks in Riverside the other night was killed when a train struck his vehicle.
After receiving numerous calls, a police helicopter crew found the vehicle embedded in the front of the train. They were able to extricate the driver before the vehicle burst into flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation is being conducted to determine why the vehicle was on the tracks. It is so important for drivers to take care when crossing railroad tracks and never attempt to drive across when a train is in sight. Witnesses told police that the crossing arms were operational at the time of this fatal accident.
Railroad accident lawsuits in California are complex; the victim or his or her family must prove that the railroad is liable under the circumstances of the case. Although trains usually have the right of way, the operator must use reasonable care and keep an eye out for vehicles and/or pedestrians along the way.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a train accident, contact a Riverside Personal Injury attorney who has experience in train accident cases – one who will work hard to get you the best possible results including compensation for any expenses incurred.

A 64-year old woman crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection in Riverside was struck by a vehicle driven by a 59-year old woman; she sustained life-threatening injuries.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. Reports indicate that the driver did not see the pedestrian crossing the street. The accident is under investigation; they do not think alcohol played a part in the accident.
California Vehicle Code Section 21950 states, “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection. The driver of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk shall exercise all due care and shall reduce the speed of a vehicle or take any other action relating to the operating of the vehicle as necessary to safeguard the safety of the pedestrian.”
This accident is under investigation to determine why the driver failed to see the pedestrian.
If the driver is found to be at fault, she can be held liable for the victim’s injuries and expenses. I suggest that the victim and/or her family contact a Riverside Personal Injury attorney who has been successful in pedestrian accident cases to make sure she is compensated for her expenses.

A 51-year old man out for a ride on his bicycle the other evening was struck by an oncoming truck and killed.
Investigators are checking to see what happened to cause this fatal accident near an intersection. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21800(a), “The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway.” This includes bicycles because bicyclists in California have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers of other vehicles.
When the results of the investigation are determined and if the driver of the vehicle is determined to be at fault, he or she may be liable for the bicyclist’s wrongful death. It would be wise for the family of this man to contact a Riverside Personal Injury attorney who has been successful in wrongful death lawsuits. They may be entitled to compensation for expenses, including medical and funeral costs.

According to California Highway Patrol officers, a crash that took place in Riverside in the early morning hours left a woman with major injuries.
A witness told Police that two vehicles were “making multiple unsafe lane changes.” One of the vehicles hit a car driven by a 19-year old girl, causing her vehicle to spin out of control and crash into a guardrail.
The young woman was taken to a local hospital and treated for major injuries. The other vehicle fled the scene. California law requires all drivers involved in any kind of accident that injures a person or property to stop their car immediately and get out. This vehicle did not obey California law.
I urge her to contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney to discuss her options and to see if she is entitled to compensation for her injuries and expenses once this driver is caught and arrested.

A 52-year old freeway worker on a closed-for-construction on-ramp on the westbound 91 Freeway in Riverside has become the fourth highway worker in the last two months to be struck in a freeway accident. He is in critical condition at a local hospital.
CHP reported that the 21-year old driver was allegedly driving drunk when she flew past the “Road Closed” sign, running over orange cones, hitting a Caterpillar loader and hitting the man. The driver was hospitalized and will be arrested once she is discharged.
Recently Caltrans launched a “Move Over” safety campaign, placing electronic signs along the freeways that read, “Slow Down or Move Over for Workers; It’s the Law.
If you injure someone while driving under the influence of alcohol, contact an experienced Riverside Criminal Law attorney who will discuss your legal rights and options with you.

For those wondering why their Metrolink train to Los Angeles was delayed the other morning – reports indicate that a male transient was killed by a commuter train in Riverside.
Details of the fatal accident have not been published as yet. The transit authority, however, would like to remind people that it is never safe to use train tracks for anything other than riding the train. California Penal Code Section 369i states, “Walking on or within 20 feet of train tracks is a violation”.
Investigators do not know why he was on the train tracks. If a family member is injured by a train, contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney to determine your options and rights.
