A 71-year old Palm Springs man getting ready to board a plane for Portland, Oregon at the Palm Springs Airport was arrested by airport security when they found a loaded semi-automatic gun in his carry-on bag.
The man told security that he did not know the gun was in his suitcase; he thought he left it in the trunk of his car. Palm Springs Police were called to the airport where they arrested the man on California charges of possession of a firearm in an airport sterile area.
California law allows handguns to be transported via commercial air. However, the weapon must be declared to the airline, be put into checked luggage, be unloaded and in a proper, locked carrying case. The man was taken to jail in the City of Banning where he is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
If you have been arrested for carrying a handgun where you should not have been, contact a Riverside Criminal Law attorney who has a thorough understanding of California’s gun laws and will discuss your legal options with you.

A man taking a shower the other morning in Palm Springs heard noises outside his bathroom door and exited the shower. He discovered a robber in his home attempting to take his laptop computer.
When the man confronted the robber, the robber hit him several times with the computer and then fled the scene with other items. The victim called the police who responded within minutes. They chased the suspect several streets, including jumping over walls. The suspect entered another home through an unlocked sliding door to hide in. Unfortunately the owner was a retired law enforcement officer who detained the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived and arrested him.
The items taken from the first home were found in the neighborhood. Police discovered that the suspect was on probation and took him to a correctional facility in Banning.
If you or someone you know has been arrested for the crime of robbery, you may be facing felony charges and can be sentenced to severe fines and prison if convicted. When your freedom is on the line, contact an experienced Riverside Criminal Law attorney who will aggressively fight for your rights.

As a reminder, the Labor Day weekend is upon us and California freeways are usually full with vehicles going out of town. I hope no one plans on drinking and driving. However, for those in the Coachella Valley, police will be holding a sobriety checkpoint on Friday and Saturday night at undisclosed locations.
Vehicles will be stopped between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. to check the driver’s sobriety and their license. The City of Coachella wants to reduce the number of injuries and death resulting from driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Drinking and driving is against the law. Not only can you hurt yourself, but you can hurt or kill someone else.

Police are looking for a black Honda or Acura with tinted windows and spinner wheels driven by a white male about 20-25 with short dark hair, clean-shaven and a tattoo on his left forearm. The description was given to the police by an eyewitness.
The police are asking for anyone with information to step forward and call 951-769-2000.
