A pickup truck traveling east on Interstate 10 near Indian Avenue in Palm Springs crashed into the center divider the other morning.  A 16-month old child was thrown out of the truck, according to California Highway Patrol and killed.  Unfortunately, the safety seat that the child was riding in was not belted to the car seat.

The freeway was backed up due to closed lanes for about an hour.  This is so sad.  The child was in a safety seat but the seat was not properly secured.  My sincere sympathies go out to the parents on this young child.

A 45-year old man, ended the lives of an elderly couple (from Yucaipa) last year in Palm Springs by crashing into their car.  The couple died from injuries sustained when the crash took place.  The man was booked into the Banning Jail on charges stemming from the accident.

Last week, the man was charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter.  It is said that the elderly couple were in Palm Springs to watch a cap to a nuclear reactor roll through the valley on a semi-truck.

I feel so sad for the family of the elderly couple.

An 85-year old man, was the victim of a hit and run accident in Palm Springs recently.  The man died at the scene.  The 37-year old driver, of the vehicle fled the scene but turned himself into the Palm Springs Police Department the following day.  He was arrested and charged with felony hit and run.  In addition, he did not have a valid driver’s license.  The driver of the Ford pickup, the one believed to be involved in this fatal crash, was found at his home.

The Palm Springs Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed this tragic accident to call them at 760-323-811.  My sympathies go out to the family and friends of victim.

The life of a young man, was taken when his car fell down a 100-foot embankment into the Whitewater River wash in Palm Springs.

The young man was travel north on Highway 111 when he lost control of his vehicle.  His car swerved toward the right and left – then skidded across both lanes before tumbling down the embankment.

Local police are investigating what caused this.  My sympathies go out to his family.  What a tragic loss for them.

Talk about identity theft.  A Palm Springs man was sentenced with a year of probation, ordered to undergo mental health counseling and a $250 fine after he was charged with impersonating a U. S. Marine.  He was wearing medals he never earned.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that the man arrived at his 20-year class reunion dressed as a Marine covered with all types of medals, including the Navy Cross, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.  The FBI said he wore a lieutenant colonel’s insignia and told friends he spent a career in the service.  One of his classmates, a U.S. Navy commander made an official inquiry and discovered the man was never in the Marines or any branch of the Armed Forces.

The 39-year old pleaded guilty to a federal misdemeanor charge recently after violating a federal statute that prohibits the unauthorized display of military medals.  It seems he purchased most of the medals on eBay and a military surplus store.

His attorney is claiming that because of the media, he lost his job as an information technology specialist at a local bank.

For those of you who think dealing in drugs is the way to go – think again.  Let me remind you about The Palm Springs Police Department and the recently formed Narcotics Task Force.  These officers work with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation plus other local law enforcement agencies.

The purpose of the Narcotics Task Force is to combat all the drugs that come through the Coachella Valley.  The Palm Springs area is a tourist area where partying goes on all the time.  If you have been arrested for drug use or selling drugs, I urge you to contact an experienced Criminal Attorney.  This is a complex matter and you can end up in jail unless you have a skilled attorney on your side.

There are many bicycle riders in the communities surrounding Palm Springs due to the beautiful weather most of the year.  Because of all the riders and all of the vehicles on the streets of Palm Springs, accidents happen.  Even if a bicycle rider is protected with a helmet, he or she does not stand a chance if hit by an automobile or truck.

A bike accident with an automobile or truck can bring very severe injuries – broken bones, ruptured organs or death.  It only takes a second for a bike rider to be hit by another vehicle.  Drivers do not always respect bike riders and feel they have no place on roadways.  Some roads have bike lanes, but not all.

Bicycle accidents happen every day.  If you or a loved one has been injured in a bicycle accident, contact an experienced Personal Injury attorney who will fight to get you compensation for any and all of your expenses.

Palm Springs is a fun place for young and old to visit.  Palm Springs police officers will ticket you for the following violations: 1) Speeding or driving through a red light will charge you with an infraction.  The police officer will issue a Notice to Appear ticket.  If you do not show proof of automobile insurance, you will be charged with an infraction for driving without proof of insurance.  2) You do not have to appear in court for a parking ticket.  The ticket will show the amount you are responsible to pay.  If you do not think you should have been ticketed, contact the parking agency listed on the ticket.  Waiting to pay the ticket will only increase the fine (check ticket for details).  Non-payment will not allow you to renew your car’s registration.  Finally, if stopped and you do not have your license, you will receive a ticket.  If a police officer thinks you are driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will be taken into custody immediately.

The majority of car accidents are caused due to someone’s negligence or carelessness.  This behavior normally results in an injury to another person.  Examples include running a red light, speeding, not stopping at a stop sign or just not paying attention to the road.

Drivers need to use reasonable care when behind the wheel.  If they cannot, they should not drive.  Careless behavior can result in someone getting hurt or worse, death!

If you or anyone you know are in a car accident contact a Personal Injury Attorney to stand up for your rights.

A client of mine recently asked me to explain what a settlement calculator is.  A personal injury settlement calculator determines the amount an individual can claim from damages or loss caused by another person.  It helps the individual reach a reasonable and fair settlement.  It will allow you to see the lump sum you can receive.

The calculator includes present and future medical expenses, rehabilitation involved, lost wages, pain, suffering, disability, impairment and loss of consortium.  All of these factors are used to determine a fair settlement.

A Personal Injury attorney can advise what the California law is and if the settlement calculator arrived at a good settlement for recovery of legal damages.
