The Riverside County Coroner’s office reported that an 81-year old San Diego man died on Interstate 10 near Whitewater recently.
Reports indicate that the man died after his SUV veered off the freeway and then rolled over. Investigators are checking into what happened to cause him to drive off the road. They are looking into a possible medical problem that may have played a factor in this fatal accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
If the investigation determines that the SUV had a defective part or the tires caused him to veer off the road, his family may be able to file a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer. They would be wise to contact a Riverside Personal Injury attorney who has handled product liability cases.

A 35-year old truck driver from Ohio fell asleep at the wheel, causing his big-rig to jackknife on Interstate 10.
The big-rig was hauling two empty trailers when it crashed into a ravine in the center divider, spilling about 10 gallons of diesel fuel on the road. A passenger was trapped inside.
The driver sustained major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. A passenger who was sleeping in the sleeper berth when the accident occurred was taken by air to a hospital with major injuries.
Studies show that more truck drivers than not, admit to occasionally or regularly dozing off while driving – many resulting in an accident. It is a fact that most drivers work long hours and take little time off. In addition, many are non-compliant with regulations on driving and rest periods in order to meet their delivery deadline. Few fight fatigue by stopping to take a nap or stretch their legs.
If you are involved in an accident involving a big-rig driver who is fatigued, and you are injured, contact a Riverside Personal Injury attorney who has been successful in cases involving truck drivers. You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries and expenses.

A 72-year old Morongo Valley woman stopped on the median of Interstate 10 because of a flat tire. As she crossed the road to get help, a vehicle hit her and then fled the scene – leaving her on the road by herself.
She was taken to a nearby hospital with major injuries.
California Vehicle Code 20001(a) states, “The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to any person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of any person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”
The California Highway Patrol is looking for the driver, described as a Hispanic woman, about 25 years old. They are asking anyone who has seen her to contact them.
If you are the victim of a hit-and-run accident, contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney who will fight for your rights and make sure you receive compensation for your injuries and expenses.

A 25-year old West Covina man was ordered to stand trial on second-degree murder charges after killing two women, ages 75 and 43, on Interstate 10 near Coachella while he was driving drunk. Three other passengers in the victim’s car were taken to a nearby hospital for minor to moderate injuries.
He was arrested when he tried to run across freeway lanes and came across a dirt embankment which was too steep to cross. He is facing two felony counts of second-degree murder and one count each of assault with a deadly weapon (his vehicle) on a police officer, driving under the influence causing injury and evading arrest and a misdemeanor count of resisting a police officer.
Several minutes before the fatal crash occurred, he had been pulled over by CHP officers on suspicion of speeding. A CHP officer, at the preliminary hearing, stated that the driver had admitted that he drank alcohol and smoked marijuana all day.
The 25-year old man is in custody in lieu of $2 million bail. If you are arrested for driving under the influence, especially if you injured or killed someone, contact an experienced Riverside County Criminal Law attorney who will provide you with extensive experience that results in a well-thought out plan of action.

The morning commute was a complete mess in Indio the other day. A woman driving west in the eastbound lanes on Interstate 10 in collided head-on with a big-rig carrying electronic equipment.
According to the Riverside County Coroner’s office, she died several minutes later. The truck driver was not injured. Both vehicles caught fire; the Riverside County firefighters were at the scene.
The fatal accident closed all the eastbound lanes and one westbound lane for most of the morning.
The California Highway Patrol officers are investigating to determine what caused the woman to be driving the wrong way. They are checking to see if alcohol was a factor.
I hope they contact an experienced Riverside County Personal Injury attorney to investigate the accident for them. Perhaps there was a mechanical malfunction that caused her to lose control?

A crash involving three big-rigs in Cathedral City caused a major traffic jam on Interstate 10 early the other morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A big-rig transporting loads of hay bales was rear-ended by two trucks shortly before 1:00 a.m. the other morning. The hay, along with oil and diesel fuel that spilled from the three trucks littered the freeway and gave the clean-up crews quite a job. A hazardous waste team was also called because of acid that spilled from one of the trucks. Lanes were closed for several hours, causing delays.
Two of the drivers sustained major injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. CHP officials are investigating the accident to determine what caused it.
If you are injured in an accident, contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney who can give you the kind of legal support that can help you maximize your chances of a positive outcome in your accident case.

Interstate 10 was the scene of a major big-rig truck accident involving several vehicles early the other morning. The two individuals in the first two big-rigs sustained severe injuries.
The accident occurred after the driver of a big-rig crashed into the back of a Freightliner truck, causing the Freightliner to hit another big-rig, which in turn, crashed into a sedan. Three other individuals sustained minor injuries.
Statistics shows that rear-end accidents often occur as a result of drivers following too close behind another vehicle or by distracted drivers. California Vehicle Code Section 21703 states, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicle and the traffic upon, and the condition of the roadway.”
Police are investigating to determine what caused this several vehicle accident. Truck drivers are on the road for long periods of time causing them to drive tired many times. If the first driver is found to be at fault, he and/or his employer could be held liable for all injuries sustained.
I would suggest that the victims consult with an experienced Riverside Personal injury attorney, one who is familiar with trucking laws in the area. I wish the victims a speedy recovery.

A 32-year old man who lost control of his minivan on Interstate 10 in Palm Springs, not only broke his leg, but the accident caused a 2-year old boy’s arm to break, a 5-year old girl’s leg to break, and a 6-year old boy and 35-year old woman to suffer head injuries.
The California Highway Patrol arrested him for drug intoxication combined with a treat separation on the left-rear tire, and negligence. Because of his broken leg, he was taken to a local hospital and not jail. The tire problem caused him to lose control; however, toxicology reports will determine the extent of his DUI charges.
Until the reports are issued, he will most probably face felony driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and felony child endangerment charges. I would suggest he contact an experienced and knowledgeable Riverside County Criminal Law attorney as soon as possible because these charges should not be taken lightly.

A pickup truck traveling east on Interstate 10 near Indian Avenue in Palm Springs crashed into the center divider the other morning. A 16-month old child was thrown out of the truck, according to California Highway Patrol and killed. Unfortunately, the safety seat that the child was riding in was not belted to the car seat.
The freeway was backed up due to closed lanes for about an hour. This is so sad. The child was in a safety seat but the seat was not properly secured. My sincere sympathies go out to the parents on this young child.
