A ventilation fan inside a storage unit containing seeds at an Indio packaging plant caused a fire which resulted in the employees having to evacuate the building.

Riverside County firefighters put the fire out quickly.  The $200,000 fan was installed recently.  Investigators are checking into why the fan started a fire.  Plant officials are not certain how many bags of seeds were destroyed.

Luckily, no one was injured.  However, if you are injured at work and it is not your fault, contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney who will investigate the facts to determine if you are entitled to compensation for your injuries and expenses.

An Indio party turned into a nightmare in the wee hours of the morning for two women over the weekend.

The women told Indio police that they were outside fighting with a man they did not know when he took out a handgun and shot them – then drove off.  Police questioned all the guests, but no one seemed to know this man.

The women were taken to nearby hospitals and are reported to be in good condition.

Indio police are investigating to determine who this man is and why he shot the two women.  They are asking any witnesses to step forward or call them with information that can lead to this man’s arrest.  Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward.

If you are injured or shot by another, this is a criminal offense.  Contact an experienced Riverside Criminal Law attorney who will investigate the incident for you and determine if you are entitled to compensation for any injuries or expenses.

A sexual assault occurs without the victim’s permission and usually involves force or threats.  It can be devastating to be a victim of such violence.  But a false accusation of sexual offense can be just as destructive, damaging an individual’s reputation more than any other type of crime.  A sexual crime involves inappropriate touching, penetration of the vagina or anal area, rape and child molestation.  It forces a person against their will to have unwanted sexual contact.  Because of the heinous nature of these acts, just the association with this type of crime can leave a stigma that persists through time.

Prosecutors pursue these charges aggressively. Sometimes these charges are false or exaggerated, and made for unknown reasons.  A good sex offense defense attorney knows how to do a thorough investigation into the lives of both parties involved.  It is the responsibility of the plaintiff to prove he or she was sexually assaulted by the defendant.

People in Indio participated in a Walk-A-Mile event to benefit domestic violence victims, specifically Terria Smith, a reporter at the Desert Sun.  Terria was able to break the cycle of violence.  Terria is one woman in four who was a domestic violence victim.  In 2007, over 100 women died in California because of this.  A study done by the United States Department of Justice indicates that the same partner also physically assaulted 81% of women stalked by the same partner.

No one has a right to hit another person.  You do not have to be a victim; there are things to do, a safe place to go to, and people to help you.  You must look for the warning signs, such as extreme jealousy, possessiveness, a bad temper.

There is help for you.  Contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).  The Palm Springs Police Department has the Crimes against persons unit (760-323-8144).  They investigate all cases of abuse.  Finally, I heard about the Shelter from the Storm, located in Palm Desert (760-674-0400).

Keep in mind that if you are in an abusive relationship, you do not need to put up with it, conversely, as a criminal defense lawyer I have seen many people falsely accused of domestic violence. Domestic violence is such a serious offense that you do not want to not address it without legal help. Find help, whether you are the abused, abuser or the falsely accused you can break the cycle with help!
