If you are convicted of possession or distribution of heroin you will be subjected to severe penalties that include a prison sentence, probation, and loss of your driver’s license, heavy fines, community service, and a permanent criminal record.
Because heroin is a highly addictive drug, police are quick to arrest anyone accused of committing a heroin crime and charge them with a felony offense. Heroin is considered a Schedule I drug under California Health and Safety Code Section 11054 and is illegal to possess, sell or distribute.
In California, if you are convicted of possession of heroin, you are facing a felony, which is punishable by 16 months to 3 years in State prison and a maximum $20,000 fine.
California also has a drug diversion program that, if you complete, your heroin charges will be dismissed.
If you have been charged with heroin possession, you are facing serious penalties and need to contact an experienced and aggressive Riverside Criminal Law attorney who will protect your legal rights, discuss all of your options and fight for the best possible results.

Trial will begin today for a Palm Springs medical marijuana dispensary owner who was accused of illegally operating a pot shop in Palm Desert several years ago. He is charged with possession of marijuana for sale, transport and sale of marijuana and keeping a place to sell controlled substances.
He was originally arrested in 2006 but two years later, it was discovered that the search warrant used to raid the dispensary was flawed and was thrown out. The Palm Desert Sheriff’s department stated that the dispensary was turning a profit; thus, violating California’s medical marijuana law.
Last year the 4th District Court of Appeals in San Diego unanimously ruled that the search warrant should not have been thrown out and resumed prosecution of the owner.
If you are arrested for possession of marijuana or any other controlled substance, this is a serious crime. Contact a Riverside County Criminal Law attorney who has the skill and knowledge of representing clients accused of drug possession or drug trafficking – one who is familiar with all areas of California drug laws and will use them to benefit you.

A recent study ranked alcohol as being more dangerous to a user than illegal drugs such as heroin and crack cocaine. Taking wider social effects into consideration, alcohol, heroin and crack cocaine were the deadliest. However, overall, alcohol was number 1.
The study stated that alcohol damages almost all organs. In addition, it is linked to higher death rates and a large percentage of crime – more than other drugs. The study said, “Problem drinkers should be targeted, not the vast majority who take in a drink or two.” It was suggested that the Federal government offer more education regarding drinking alcohol and perhaps raise the prices.
