Witnesses informed the police that the hit-and-run vehicle was a pickup truck that may have damage to its front fender.  They went on to say that not only did the truck hit and kill the man, but it left him lying on the roadway without calling for help.  California Vehicle Code 20001 states that, if you are involved in an accident where someone is injured, you are required to stop your car at the scene and call for help.”

A 26-year old Cathedral City man is facing serious problems.  Not only is he being accused of driving while under the influence and killing a 24-year old man in a wheelchair, but he is also being accused of a hit-and-run.

He is being charged with DUI gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run leading to death.  The man pleaded not guilty to felony charges.  It seems there is security footage from a neighbor’s home showing the Cathedral City man knocking the 24-year old out of his wheelchair, which the police now have in their possession.  Family members are angry because he pleaded not guilty when they have proof he killed their son and brother.

The victim’s nephew followed the Cathedral City man and then alerted police of his whereabouts.  The bail for the defendant was set at $150,000.  If convicted, he is facing a maximum of 19 years in prison.

He was scheduled to have surgery next week to help him walk again.  I hope the family contacts an experienced Riverside County Criminal Law attorney so they can possibly file a wrongful death lawsuit and get reimbursed for the loss of their family member and expenses incurred.

A 38-year old Riverside woman was sentenced to three years in prison for the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist in Newport Beach.  She was driving under the influence of prescription drugs at the time and pleaded guilty to hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The woman was under the influence of methadone and clonazepam when her SUV drifted out of the lane she was in and struck a 49-year old man as he and two friends were riding their bikes.  The woman did not stop and fled the scene – dragging the man’s bike for more than a mile before stopping.

The man died the next day after suffering severe head and neck injuries.

California law requires all drivers to stop when an accident takes place.  I hope the family of this man contacts an experienced Riverside County Criminal Law attorney, one who is familiar with hit-and-run driving cases.

A 25-year old from Hemet driving a stolen Chevrolet pickup truck crashed into another vehicle in the early morning hours after driving through a stop sign.  CHP officers are estimating that he was traveling at about 60 mph at the time of impact.  The couple in the vehicle was going to work on an overnight theater cleaning crew; they were taking their children to their grandmother.

The impact killed a 44-year old father of three after the vehicle came to a stop resting against a palm tree in the front yard of a house. The children and the wife were in the vehicle at the time.  The children, ages 13, 8, and 4 suffered minor injuries and the wife required stitches on her forehead; she was hospitalized overnight.

A 26-year old passenger in the truck, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown through the windshield.  The driver ran from the scene screaming, “Oh God!” according to witnesses.

He was caught several hours later hiding in a garage about a mile away, and arrested on suspicion of two counts of felony vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.  The passenger died while being transported to a nearby hospital.  Officers are not sure whether alcohol was a factor in this fatal crash; they are awaiting toxicology tests.  The District Attorney’s office said that murder charges could be pursued if investigators find the deaths occurred in the commission of a felony.

I hope the families contact an experienced Riverside County Personal Injury attorney to determine if they are eligible to file a lawsuit for wrongful death and to be compensated for all expenses incurred.
