Fans in Riverside County gathered around televisions yesterday to watch the Superbowl. Close by were friends, food and alcohol. Some watched at home or a friend’s home, while others watched at the local bar.
Superbowl Sunday is supposed to be an exciting day for football fans, but unfortunately there are a high number of arrests made for drunk driving that day. It is okay to have a drink with your friends, but if you must, let someone who is not drinking drive you home.
California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a) states, “It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.”

When facing a driving under the influence charge in Riverside County, many individuals have difficulty understanding what they have been charged with. The law is complex and the penalties involved in this charge are severe.
Most people who face these types of charges are not criminals, but ordinary individuals who have never faced the criminal justice system before and probably never will again.
Under California law, all drivers are deemed to have given consent to chemical testing of his or her blood to determine the alcoholic content (BAC) if arrested for a California DUI. This is known as California’s Implied Consent Law.

Being charged with a non-criminal traffic violation carries lesser consequences than a criminal traffic violation, many individuals do not take the time to pay it or fight it.
Failure to pay the imposed fine or show up in the courtroom could make matters worse.
It is important to fight every traffic ticket. Most violations are considered minor criminal offenses, although some are taken seriously, such as Driving While Intoxicated or Under the Influence.
In addition to paying a fine, you could be facing jail time, or higher insurance premiums for years to come – not to mention possible suspension of your driver’s license, if this is not your first offense.
If you received a traffic ticket in Riverside County, you need to contact an experienced Riverside Criminal Law attorney who can defend all of your tickets, including those for speeding, red-light violations, stop-sign violations, improper U-turn, following too closely or careless driving.

According to California Highway Patrol officers, a crash that took place in Riverside in the early morning hours left a woman with major injuries.
A witness told Police that two vehicles were “making multiple unsafe lane changes.” One of the vehicles hit a car driven by a 19-year old girl, causing her vehicle to spin out of control and crash into a guardrail.
The young woman was taken to a local hospital and treated for major injuries. The other vehicle fled the scene. California law requires all drivers involved in any kind of accident that injures a person or property to stop their car immediately and get out. This vehicle did not obey California law.
I urge her to contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney to discuss her options and to see if she is entitled to compensation for her injuries and expenses once this driver is caught and arrested.

Many tourists come to Palm Springs to have a good time – to party. In most cases, partying includes alcohol and/or drugs.
Did you know that out of 100 California cities, similar in size, Palm Springs had the most alcohol related accidents in a given year, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety? The number stated in their report represents more than 30% of 195 people killed or injured across the Coachella Valley. It has been number 1 for alcohol-related accidents since 2000.
Palm Springs has over 200 bars and restaurants serving alcohol – more than any other city in the Coachella Valley. Customers can get into a lot of trouble on a given evening. Palm Springs City Manager is working to find a balance between the entertainment area and the alcohol-related injuries in the city – police are doing more enforcement work in bars by checking alcohol licenses.
Palms Springs is the only Coachella Valley city with an officer assigned to DUI work. They will continue to enforce no drinking and driving by setting up checkpoints from time to time.
If you are involved in an accident with a driver who is drunk, either from alcohol or drugs, contact an experienced Riverside County Criminal Law attorney who will determine if you are entitled to compensation for your injuries and expenses.

Anyone at the intersection of Alejo Road and Sunrise Way in Palm Springs the other afternoon was probably delayed by the four-vehicle accident that took placed.
Four vehicles were involved in an accident; three had to be towed away. A 29-year old woman was transported to a nearby hospital complaining of leg pain; there were no other injuries reported.
Intersections are one of the most dangerous spots on California roads. Statistics show that at least one-third of vehicle accidents and 40% of all fatalities happen at an intersection. The most common ‘right-of-way’ rule is that a person turning left should yield the right-of-way to a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction.
Local police are investigating to determine the cause of this accident.
If you are involved in an accident at an intersection, contact a Riverside County Personal Injury attorney with a high level of expertise in California rules of the road – an attorney who will stand up for you and get you compensation for your injuries and damages.

Here is another reason for motorists not to drink and drive. The Riverside County Sheriff’s department has decided to continue towing and impounding vehicles belonging to first-time unlicensed drivers that are stopped at DUI checkpoints.
For a time, there was a contract city policy authorizing Coachella police to allow first-time unlicensed drivers at DUI checkpoints to have someone pick up the vehicle before it was towed. This policy has been reversed.
California law since 1995 has allowed police to tow and impound vehicles for 30 days when driven by unlicensed, revoked or suspended drivers. For every day the vehicle is impounded, it accumulates fines and storage fees.
The policy change came after reports of law enforcement agencies all over the State of California implementing similar changes.
If you are stopped at a DUI checkpoint and your vehicle is impounded, contact an experienced Riverside County Criminal Law attorney who will investigate to see if the charges against you can be dropped – especially for a first time offense. This is a serious crime; you need someone who will fight for your rights.

The Palm Springs Police Department reported that an accident that occurred at an intersection around 4:00 in the afternoon injured five people, including two small children.
One of the vehicles, driven by a man from Germany, was making a left-hand turn; the other vehicle, driven by a woman, was coming towards him when they collided at the intersection. After the impact, the woman hit a block wall of a nearby home and then overturned.
The woman and children were taken to a local hospital; she and the two children had moderate injuries. The man and his female passenger sustained critical injuries; they were taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of the accident; they believe the woman may have been driving drunk; she was arrested for driving under the influence.
I suggest the two individuals from Germany contact an experienced Riverside County Personal Injury attorney, one who has handled cases involving drunk drivers to see if they are entitled to compensation for their injuries and medical expenses.

Speeding in the desert communities of California can prove to be an expensive occurrence. A speeding ticket is recorded on the driver’s record using a ‘points’ system. The amount of points depends on the severity of the violation and too many points on your record can hurt you when applying for a job or automobile insurance.
California Vehicle Code 22349 states, “No person may drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than 65 miles per hour”.
If you are stopped and given a speeding ticket, contact a Riverside County Criminal Law attorney who has proven successful in fighting traffic tickets and can help get your penalties reduced or you keep your driver’s license from being revoked.
