A 3-year old girl was bit by a pit bull in Cathedral City.  The dog belonged to her uncle.

The little girl received 150 stitches to the left side of her face.  Apparently, after getting a tip about the attack dog, police learned that this was not the first time the dog attacked this little girl.

California Civil Code Section 3342 provides for “strict liability” against dog owners.  The victim only needs to prove that he or she was bitten and that the defendant is the owner or the dog.

The child’s father was arrested on child endangerment charges after the family hid the dog from the police.  They told police that the girl was bitten by a stray dog, giving little details about the attack.  There is a felony warrant for the arrest of the dog’s owner; he is also being held on drug-related charges in lieu of $25,000 bail.

If your child is attacked by a dog, whether it is a stray or a family member’s dog, contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney who will help you recover the compensation you deserve for injuries, medical expenses and pain and suffering.

A 12-year old girl was bitten by a Pit Bull the other day.  Riverside County Animal Control took the dog and had it quarantined.  The girl was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Dog bites account for hundreds of thousands of emergency room visits every year – they are the leading causes of personal injury. Anyone who is bitten by a dog should seek medical treatment immediately, especially if the dog’s health status is not known.  If left untreated, it can cause serious infection.

If you or your child has been bitten by a dog, it is in your best interest to contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney because the owner of the dog is generally liable for your injuries and expenses.

Recently I heard from someone who was bitten by a dog.  She wanted to know if she needed an attorney.  I told her yes.  An attorney can make the situation less stressful and more efficient; they know what to say and what not to say.  A good attorney can handle the case with the dog owner’s insurance company and get the claim resolved without going to court – most of the time.

An experienced attorney can evaluate your claim and determine compensation for you, which includes any lost time from work, especially if you are injured and out for a substantial amount of time.  Retaining an attorney early in the process is the key to a better settlement for you – it ensures that the claim will be handled quickly and in an efficient manner.

There are close to five million dog bite victims in the United States every year.  Statistics show that about one thousand individuals are treated for dog bites every day.  Some of these bites prove to be fatal and most victims are children who are bitten in the face.  There are thousands of facial injuries reported every year because of dog bites.  The dog usually targets the lips, nose and cheeks.

Pit bulls and Rottweilers seem to be the most dangerous dogs out there today.  It has been shown that any dog trained to attack will probably bite someone.  When a dog becomes dangerous, it is usually the fault of the owner.  Even though a dog has the reputation of being dangerous, the dog can be a loving pet – treat a dog well and it will love you – no matter what the breed is.
