A hit-and-run driver in Cathedral City killed the former drummer, from The Nymphs and Iggy Pop group recently. An unidentified witness called police to report that a body was lying along the side of Date Palm Drive late one night. The witness thought the man was drunk.
Upon investigations, the police determined that there was no evidence of the driver trying to stop; he or she just fled the scene. The victim’s brother told police he was going to the store for cigarettes.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 760-202-2416. They believe the vehicle has front-end damage and missing headlights. The victim was the 6th pedestrian killed along a valley road in the past seven weeks.

A 70-year old man riding a bicycle against the flow of traffic in Cathedral City was hit by a minivan and then dragged under it for a distance the other morning. Police removed the man from under the minivan when they arrived. Witnesses told police that the minivan may have run a stop sign.
The bicyclist was taken to a nearby hospital in Palm Springs where it was determined he sustained a head injury, cuts to his arm, knees, shoulders and head – along with other bruises and bumps. Because of his age, his injuries were considered serious. No one else was injured.
The police impounded the minivan and cited the driver for suspicion of driving without a license. The accident is under investigation at this time. It would be wise for the bicyclist to seek the advice of an experienced Personal Injury attorney to determine if he can be compensated for his medical expenses.

It never ceases to amaze me when a murder occurs in our pretty, little community. Today, jurors convicted a man of first-degree murder in the shooting of a Cathedral City man during a robbery back in 2006. The man was found guilty on the special circumstances of being a gang member at the time of the murder. The jury was not able to reach agreement on “murder during a robbery” so the judge declared a mistrial on that particular charge. However, they found him guilty of “robbery in the course of the murder” and “felony with a firearm.”
During closing arguments, the Deputy District Attorney, said he admitted to investigators he shot the victim, in the head. He also denied that he was under the influence of methamphetamines, even though, his attorney said he was. All this was done to show what a big man he was to his gang members. The accused attorney claimed he was looking for methamphetamines and not someone to kill. He said the shooting was an accident.
Whether or not the accused was under the influence of methamphetamines is something we will never know. They can do bad things to an individual and if caught with it, the individual will go to jail. Being caught with drugs is a criminal offense and needs the experience of a Criminal Law attorney.

A sexual assault occurs without the victim’s permission and usually involves force or threats. It can be devastating to be a victim of such violence. But a false accusation of sexual offense can be just as destructive, damaging an individual’s reputation more than any other type of crime. A sexual crime involves inappropriate touching, penetration of the vagina or anal area, rape and child molestation. It forces a person against their will to have unwanted sexual contact. Because of the heinous nature of these acts, just the association with this type of crime can leave a stigma that persists through time.
Prosecutors pursue these charges aggressively. Sometimes these charges are false or exaggerated, and made for unknown reasons. A good sex offense defense attorney knows how to do a thorough investigation into the lives of both parties involved. It is the responsibility of the plaintiff to prove he or she was sexually assaulted by the defendant.

A friend of mine who lives near Cathedral Canyon Drive and Dinah Shore Drive came into the office the other day. She said the area where she lives is dangerous for students who walk to and from Cathedral City High School. Too many people speed through the desert town and many teenagers find a need to tailgate. Even though the law requires drivers to operate a motor vehicle with reasonable care, too many cars speed through the neighborhood and there have been numerous accidents in the last year or so. The speed limit is 50 mph.
She wanted to know what she could do to change the speed limit in her neighborhood. I advised her that the City Council is considering speed changes as we speak. Statistics show that thousands of pedestrians die each year by negligent drivers. I told her that California requires all municipalities to conduct speed surveys on a regular basis because speed limits are not constant in Palm Springs.
Personal injury victims are hurt because of another person or driver. Most accidents occur between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. – when children are leaving schools. My friend ended our conversation by telling me that her niece was one of the unlucky people to be involved in an accident in the neighborhood. I advised her to tell her niece not to depend on the insurance company to help her; she needs an experienced personal injury attorney to get her through this time and California statute gives her 2 years from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit.
