Drinking and driving can cost you a lot more than you think.  The holiday season brings many festive times with friends and family. Unfortunately, it also brings an increased risk on our freeways.

According to statistics, thousands of people are injured or killed in California during the months of November and December as a result of alcohol-related accidents.

Reports indicate that a first offense can cost a driver more than $10,000 in fines, vehicle storage, attorney fees, restitution, DMV license reissue fees and increase in insurance rates.  This is in addition to the costs incurred for an ignition interlock-device, booking and fingerprinting fees.  The cost for someone under the age of 21 is even higher.

If you are arrested for drinking and driving during the holidays, contact an experienced Riverside Criminal Law attorney who will fight for your rights and your driver’s license.

It is no surprise that when a pedestrian is hit by a motor vehicle that he or she is at a disadvantage.  After all, the pedestrian has nothing to protect him or her – while passengers in a car have the safety of a metal frame around them.

Every year there is a large number of pedestrian accidents in Riverside County.  Most are caused mainly because of alcohol and/or drugs, distracted driving, negligent or careless driving and failure to yield the right of way.

If you have been involved in a pedestrian accident that could have been prevented, I urge you to contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney as soon as possible to seek compensation for your injuries and expenses.

A woman in one of the vehicles complained of neck pain and was taken to a local hospital.

Hemet Police are investigating to determine why the vehicle spun out of control.

An 18-year old boy riding his bike in Norco the other night was hit by a car, causing him to sustain critical injuries; he is in a coma.  He had just spoken to his mother; he was on his way home from his dad’s home – about two blocks away.  Reports state that the two were travelling in opposite directions when the crash took place.

The young boy underwent brain surgery.  In addition, he is sustained a broken leg and pelvis.  He is listed in critical condition.  The woman driving the vehicle that hit him was also taken to the hospital.

His mother says this is the second time in six months that he has been seriously injured – the first time he was walking along a horse trail when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver.  At that time, the doctors put him in a medically-induced coma.

If you are injured while riding your bike by another vehicle, contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney to determine if you can seek financial compensation for your injuries and expenses.  If the driver is proven to be at-fault, he or she may be held liable for your losses.

Norco Police are investigating to determine what caused the car to strike the bicyclist.  It is unknown if the bicyclist was on the shoulder of the road or if the driver of the vehicle was making a turn or being negligent somehow.

According to California Highway Patrol officers, a crash that took place in Riverside in the early morning hours left a woman with major injuries.

A witness told Police that two vehicles were “making multiple unsafe lane changes.”  One of the vehicles hit a car driven by a 19-year old girl, causing her vehicle to spin out of control and crash into a guardrail.

The young woman was taken to a local hospital and treated for major injuries.  The other vehicle fled the scene.  California law requires all drivers involved in any kind of accident that injures a person or property to stop their car immediately and get out.  This vehicle did not obey California law.

I urge her to contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney to discuss her options and to see if she is entitled to compensation for her injuries and expenses once this driver is caught and arrested.

A 5-year old Desert Hot Springs boy on a bicycle was trying to cross a street the other night when he got hit by a car.  It’s not clear why his parents were not with him at that time, 10:30 p.m.

Police questioned and released the driver.  They are certain he was not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  It was noted, however, that the young boy was not wearing a helmet.

The child was flown to a nearby hospital where he is listed in serious condition.  The Desert Hot Springs Police are hoping this does not turn into a homicide.

If you are involved in an accident and your actions cause someone to be seriously injured, I suggest you contact an experienced Personal Injury attorney who will protect your legal rights.

The morning commute was a complete mess in Indio the other day.  A woman driving west in the eastbound lanes on Interstate 10 in collided head-on with a big-rig carrying electronic equipment.

According to the Riverside County Coroner’s office, she died several minutes later.  The truck driver was not injured.  Both vehicles caught fire; the Riverside County firefighters were at the scene.

The fatal accident closed all the eastbound lanes and one westbound lane for most of the morning.

The California Highway Patrol officers are investigating to determine what caused the woman to be driving the wrong way.  They are checking to see if alcohol was a factor.

I hope they contact an experienced Riverside County Personal Injury attorney to investigate the accident for them.  Perhaps there was a mechanical malfunction that caused her to lose control?
