A 71-year old Palm Springs man getting ready to board a plane for Portland, Oregon at the Palm Springs Airport was arrested by airport security when they found a loaded semi-automatic gun in his carry-on bag.
The man told security that he did not know the gun was in his suitcase; he thought he left it in the trunk of his car. Palm Springs Police were called to the airport where they arrested the man on California charges of possession of a firearm in an airport sterile area.
California law allows handguns to be transported via commercial air. However, the weapon must be declared to the airline, be put into checked luggage, be unloaded and in a proper, locked carrying case. The man was taken to jail in the City of Banning where he is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
If you have been arrested for carrying a handgun where you should not have been, contact a Riverside Criminal Law attorney who has a thorough understanding of California’s gun laws and will discuss your legal options with you.

For many people in Southern California, their home is the largest and most valuable asset they own. When creating an estate plan, it is important to address what will happen to this asset.
When a home is transferred by i.e. inheritance, probate or a trustee sale, a deed is involved. Completing a deed transfer can help you avoid taxes, ensure that your property is transferred to your loved one, and make sure that the property is not impacted by claims from creditors.
Due to the advent of title insurance, only grant and quitclaim deeds are used in California.
It is important to have a deed for estate planning purposes because your home will need to be transferred into your trust in order for the trust to own the home.
If you have questions regarding estate planning and the deed to your home being transferred to one of your beneficiaries, contact a Riverside Estate Planning attorney who can offer the knowledge, skill and professional resources to help you protect all of your assets.

I cannot stress enough to drive carefully when it is raining. Drivers tend to forget that since California does not get excessive rains, the roads are slippery when it does rain.
Riverside Police reported that a vehicle with several 20-year old men in it was speeding on a rain-slicked road the other afternoon. The car attempted to navigate an S-shaped curve when it began to slide, hit another vehicle going the opposite way, ran off the side of the road and stopped after it hit a post. One person sustained minor facial injuries.
The street was closed for a couple of hours while teams cleaned up the area.
If you are injured in an accident because another person was speeding on a rain-slicked road, contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney who will investigate to determine if you can be compensated for your injuries and expenses.

As Internet use has increased, so has there been an increase in Internet crimes. It wasn’t that long ago when words, such as cybersex and cyber-chats were unheard of. Today, those words are all too common. Computer crimes have become one of the greatest challenges that face law enforcement.
Prosecutors are constantly confronting all types of computer crimes, including child pornography, sex crimes, cyber-stalking, computer fraud, and Internet theft. Statistics show that approximately 10% of all Internet and computer crimes in the United States are committed in California. They have even created special cyber-crime units to decrease computer crime in Southern California.
Conviction of Internet crimes comes with severe consequences, such as State, local or Federal prison, heavy fines, and loss of employment for those with security clearances, restitution and probation.
If you are arrested for an Internet crime of any type, contact a Riverside Criminal Law attorney who has experience in Internet crime cases and will work to negotiate reduced charges, if this is in your best interests.

California law requires an individual writing a legal will to be at least 18 years old and of sound mind. He or she must understand the complete nature of the document before signing.
There are three acceptable forms of a legal California will, which include:
· Handwritten – Must be completely written by the testator, signed and dated
o Does not have to be notarized or witnessed but having a witness is a good idea
· the testator just needs to fill in the blanks
o Can leave estate to anyone in family, money to one other person, or to a charity
o Provides for naming a guardian and executor
· Prepared by attorney – An attorney can advise the best ways to leave property and tax consequences that can arise
o Signed by testator in the presence of at least two witnesses, none of which are beneficiaries. They must also sign.
A will remains valid unless superseded by a new one. Provisions that require change can be done so by a codicil.
It is not always necessary to hire an attorney to create a will, but a good idea to avoid any complications that could arise. Contact an experienced Riverside Estate Planning attorney who will ensure that your wishes are carried out.
