For those of you who watch Desperate Housewives, the name Carlos Solis is familiar to you.  39-year old Ricardo Chavira, who plays Eva Longoria’s husband on ABC, was arrested early the other morning in Los Angeles for drunken driving.

Los Angeles police spotted him driving erratically in the wee hours of the morning and pulled him over.  Officers administered field sobriety tests that he did not pass.  When he refused to take a Breathalyzer and/or blood test, officers took him to the police station where he was booked on suspicion of DUI.  He remains in jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

This can happen to you, too.  If you are found to be drinking and driving and arrested for suspicion of DUI, this is a serious matter.  You need to immediately call an experienced Riverside Criminal Law attorney who will investigate your case.

Three people, one from Riverside, were arrested and accused of an $11 million insurance scam.  They have been accused of forging repair checks from insurance companies.  They were released pending a preliminary hearing.

Two are co-owners of a restoration and clean-up business; the other is the controller of the company.  They are hired after an insured property loss.

A criminal complaint states that the three stole $11.6 million between 2005 and 2009 from almost fifty insurance companies by forging names on checks. The fraud came into light when a homeowner complained to her insurance company about the work that was done by this company after a 2005 fire.  After investigating, the homeowner’s insurance company discovered the two owners of the restoration business had forged signatures on checks payable to the homeowner.

The California Department of Insurance Fraud Division investigated the case.  All three involved pleaded not guilty to the charges.

If you are ever the victim of fraud or forgery, contact an experienced Riverside Criminal Law attorney who will investigate and make sure justice is served.

The Palm Springs Police Department reported that an accident that occurred at an intersection around 4:00 in the afternoon injured five people, including two small children.

One of the vehicles, driven by a man from Germany, was making a left-hand turn; the other vehicle, driven by a woman, was coming towards him when they collided at the intersection. After the impact, the woman hit a block wall of a nearby home and then overturned.

The woman and children were taken to a local hospital; she and the two children had moderate injuries.  The man and his female passenger sustained critical injuries; they were taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of the accident; they believe the woman may have been driving drunk; she was arrested for driving under the influence.

I suggest the two individuals from Germany contact an experienced Riverside County Personal Injury attorney, one who has handled cases involving drunk drivers to see if they are entitled to compensation for their injuries and medical expenses.

An 8-year old boy told police recently that his mom had been drinking beer and cursing while waiting outside a high school for his 17-year old brother.

Moments later, while driving at a high speed, the woman lost control, hitting a concrete light pole, and killing his 9-year old sister and injuring his brother.  The little girl and 17-year old were not wearing seat belts – they were thrown from the vehicle.  The older boy suffered a broken back.  Another child, a 16-year old brother, came upon the scene while walking home.

The 41-year old mother is being charged with second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of marijuana and alcohol, and driving with a blood-alcohol level more than .08% - it was almost three times the legal limit. She has pleaded not guilty.

Court records show in the 1990s, the woman had three misdemeanor DUI convictions and one felony DUI conviction.  Her license had been suspended from 1994 to 2009.

Police found an empty beer can in the vehicle and 11 more empty cans at home.  The accident is under investigation.  She is being held at a Detention Center in Riverside with bail set at $1 million.  The father of three of the children said she was depressed because she recently lost her job and she would not do anything intentionally to harm her children.

If you have children in Lake Elsinore you probably heard about the teenager who walked into school carrying a shotgun, knives and ammunition concealed in a bag.

It was a lucky day for those in school that day – the situation got defused before anyone got hurt.  The incident occurred at 7:00 a.m. before the actual school day began; however, dozens of students were on campus already.  People are wondering how he managed to get into school and into a classroom without being stopped beforehand.  The school’s safety is being questioned.

When he was finally stopped, he was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of brandishing a loaded gun, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of weapons on a school campus.

At this time, it is unknown what happened in the classroom; police are not giving out details.  Apparently, the teenager used to attend this high school and had recently transferred to another one for unknown reasons.  The superintendent of schools called this an isolated incident.

If your child is injured because someone brought a concealed weapon on school grounds, contact an experienced Riverside County Criminal Law attorney who can investigate the incident and determine if you are eligible for compensation for any damages or expenses incurred.

Actress Mira Sorvino’s husband, Christopher Backus, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication recently while the couple was staying in a San Diego hotel.  Apparently the couple was having an argument when he started pacing around the hotel with a bat – yelling at anyone close by – allegedly drunk.

Backus was arrested on a misdemeanor count of being drunk in public and was booked into jail around midnight.

California Penal Code 647(f) prohibits being drunk in public.  It defines drunk in public when, “Your level of intoxication makes you unable to exercise care for your safety or for the safety of others, or when it interferes with, obstructs, or prevents others from using streets, sidewalks or other public areas.”

A conviction is usually accompanied by fines, jail time and probation.  In addition, it goes onto your permanent criminal record.  If you are arrested for being drunk in public, contact a skilled California Criminal Law attorney who can investigate and work to possibly reduce or dismiss the charges.

Shoplifting is intentionally taking an item without paying for it – it is the practice of stealing merchandise.  It can also include changing price tags and committing refund fraud.  Shoplifting is a crime.

It is a serious and persistent problem for retailers.  A business owner is allowed to detain a shoplifting suspect if there is probable cause.  It is considered a misdemeanor petty theft if the stolen goods total less than $500.  If the stolen goods total more than $500 and/or the offender has a history of shoplifting, he or she will face harsh penalties.  The offender can be charged with a felony crime of grand theft or larceny.  The sentence can include jail or prison time, fines and community service.

If you have been accused of shoplifting, contact an experienced Riverside County Criminal Law attorney immediately.  He or she can inform you of the California laws, protect your legal rights and hopefully get your sentence reduced.

Three members of a Norco family are facing charges of possession of a controlled substance, cultivating marijuana and child endangerment in their home – the parents and one 22-year old son.  More than 200 cannabis plants were discovered.

In addition, other drugs were found which included methamphetamines and pharmaceutical drugs – plus paraphernalia used for sales of controlled substances.  They are also facing felony charges for possession of firearms.

In addition, Child Protective Services removed a 13-year old child from the home.  All three were booked into the Detention Center in Riverside and are being held on bail.  I would strong urge this family to contact a successful Riverside Criminal Law attorney who will protect their rights and perhaps negotiate a lesser charge.
