An accident involving three cars on Interstate 10 in Thousand Palms the other evening killed a 9-month old girl.
The accident happened when a vehicle driven by a 21-year old girl was attempting to enter the flow of traffic from a lane closest to the center divider; she was hit by the vehicle behind her who was traveling at about 70 mph. The girl had another woman and three small children in the vehicle. The impact sent her vehicle across several lanes; she collided with a truck, causing it to hit the guardrail.
All of the occupants in the vehicle driven by the 21-year old girl were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for major injuries. The 9-month old girl died at the hospital. The CHP investigators determined that the child’s safety seat was not properly secured, resulting in her death. The other drivers were not injured.
CHP officials are investigating to determine why the vehicle was entering the freeway from the center divider. The police are asking all drivers in the Coachella Valley to stay at home or find alternate routes until severe, hurricane-strength winds subside. The winds are causing significant damage across the valley.
Residents are without power - the local airport saw 66 mph wind gusts. Reports indicate that large dust clouds and blowing sand are causing low visibility on the roads. Uprooted trees and downed power lines forced many road closures.
The windstorm is believed to have been responsible for a two-vehicle accident involving an automobile and a bus on Interstate 10 near Palm Springs. One individual had to be cut out of a severely damaged vehicle, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Two adults and two children were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of moderate to major injuries.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a six-vehicle accident at an intersection in Riverside.
Apparently five vehicles were stopped at a red light signal at a major intersection when a pickup truck failed to stop and crashed into the last vehicle, setting off a chain-reaction collision. The impact caused two of the vehicles to be pushed into the intersection – causing four individuals to be injured. The injured people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
An investigation is underway and no arrests or citations have been issued. It appears that the truck crashed at full speed into the vehicles that were stopped. Investigators are trying to determine why the truck driver did not stop. Many rear-end accidents are caused by drivers who follow another vehicle too closely. California Vehicle Code Section 21740 states, “A driver shall keep the vehicle he is driving at a distance of not less than 300 feet to the fear of any other motor vehicle subject to such speed restriction which is preceding it.”
If the truck driver is found to be at fault because of his or her negligence, he or she can be held liable for compensation of the injuries and damages caused. The victims would be wise to consult with an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney who will investigate the facts of their case.

A transit bus carrying five passengers on Interstate 15 in Temecula crashed into the back of a box truck. The truck was stopped at the end of a line of cars waiting to exit the freeway.
Apparently the bus driver did not notice the backed up vehicles; it is unknown why – there are many questions that need to be answered. His leg was almost severed and his injuries are potentially life-threatening. Six other people with minor injuries were transported to local hospitals.
In most cases, rear-end accidents are caused because a driver is following too close behind another vehicle. California Vehicle Code Section 21703 states, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicle and the traffic upon, and the condition of, the roadway.”
The accident is under investigation to determine what happened. Officials report that the site of the accident often is the scene of major congestion and backup and a more than average amount of collisions. If it is determined that the bus driver was at fault, he and the transit authority can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. If it is determined that the stretch of roadway is dangerous, a governmental entity may be held responsible.
If you are the victim of an accident caused by someone else’s negligence, contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney to determine if you can be compensated for your injuries and out-of-pocket expenses – one who can advise you of your legal rights and options.

Once again alcohol has proven that it should not be consumed before driving.
Two people were injured the other night in Cathedral City when their pickup truck flipped and ended upside down. While the pickup sat on the road on its roof, a vehicle driven by a 57-year old man crashed into it. The man’s wife injured her leg and was taken to a nearby hospital for stitches.
Police smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath and believe the accident happened because he was under the influence. It was also discovered that he did not have a license and carried a fake identification showing he was 36.
If you are the victim of an automobile accident, contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney who will discuss your legal rights and options with you.

An 18-year old Riverside woman was killed on Highway 62 near the Arizona state line in a head-on crash the other day.
Reports indicate that a sedan crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into an SUV where the young woman was a passenger. The most frequent cause of a head-on collision is driver distraction or sudden swerving to avoid something in the road. In most cases, the distracted driver was on a cell phone or eating.
It is not known at this time how fast the driver was going, but generally, the faster the driver was going, the greater the risk of serious injury of death. In this case death resulted.
Other passengers were taken by air to a nearby hospital for treatment.
If a loved one has died in a head-on crash, you have legal rights. Contact an experienced Riverside Personal Injury attorney to review the details of the fatal accident and to determine if you have rights to compensation or to file a wrongful death of your loved one.

A man in his 30’s lost control of his vehicle the other morning, causing it to roll over. He was alone in his vehicle. Officials stated that he suffered bruises, abrasions and contusions. In addition there was the possibility of respiratory problems affecting his lung. He was taken by helicopter to a nearby trauma center.
